Creating An Oil Painting from a Photo

With the event of copyright issues I started playing with the PSP tools to try and achieve an effect to modify Photos to look less like Photos and came up with this effect. Maybe someone else is interested in this and would like to try it.
You will need:
Paint Shop Pro
FM Tile Tools
The Blend Emboss will always be available even after the rest times out.
The Picture

Click to get the full size version. Right click and copy and paste into PSP

Be sure to play with all the tools. I always go to the highest setting when I try a new tool and the slowly reduce the setting, just to see what it does. And always have the little arrow left of the eye depressed. It shows the changes in the image without actually changing it.

Please use the Full size image to do this Tutorial. Resize after you are finished and before framing. Otherwise the brush and colored edge settings are too overwhelming.

So now lets have fun

First we want to enhance the Photo with the automatic tools you will find under effects Photo Enhancement. To give it more depth and color.

This is the Color Balance Tool.

Now Effects, Photo Enhancement Automatic Contrast
Next we want to use FM Tile Tools Blend Emboss, using the default settings. We use the emboss now to create better edges for the next tool.

Now comes a tool that might be new to you, try playing with the color by clicking on it and selecting a color from your image, see what the effect is. And don't worry, even though it may make the picture look a little noisy it will go away.
Use these settings
Now lets apply the brush strokes and again it is a matter of playing with the settings when you use your own image. For this one those are the optimum settings.
Now go to Colors, Adjust Hue/Saturation/Lightness The highlighted section will show "Master", click on the little arrow and select red. Type the numbers in the fields.

You can change each color by just clicking the arrow. Only click the ok after you have finished all the settings.

To reset the values to zero just click on the little button with the back arrow on the bottom right.

Next the yellows :)
and the Greens
The Cyans we leave as 0's
and the blues
and last but not least the Magentas
Now is the time to Resize your image and apply another FM tile tool, Blend Emboss with the default settings.
Hope you enjoyed the result.
